The correct time for Craterhoof to make it's appearance is as the finishing touch, and as the Craterhoof player your job is to engineer that boardstate before dropping him. I personally wouldn't run Mikaeus as my general, as he is way too high cmc and I would much rather hide him in my deck/hand and cheat him into play along with having other support colors.įinally, I am of the opinion that both cards say the same thing, "the game is over now". Most green decks in general are capable of this type of play, elfball just does it the best. Granted this is not the only instance in which players run Craterhoof, but it is the deck type I most closely relate to the card. When I think Craterhoof I think elfball, and when I think elfball I think of boardstates that go from zero to 100 in a single turn and combo kill you. If Craterhoof wasnt fair he would be banned already. Sorry for the rant, just recently got some sassy attitude from a guy that says Craterhoof is an unfair card. I'm not gonna apologize to a groaning table, over steadily playing a bunch of creatures and then strategically saving Cavern of Souls to drop Craterhoof uncounterably. Don't like it? Run board wipes, run cards like "Aetherize" or "Cyclonic Rift". Craterhoof and a proper 7 or 8 creature board state wins games. Craterhoof +3ish creatures does barely anything. You run counters and kill spells to stop other peoples combos right? If you let me play 7+ creatures over the course of 5-10 turns, and you dont stop me, and I play Craterhoof Behemoth, thats not on me. I'm tired of people being mad at combos, psuedo combos and game lock states, as well as being mad at a creature and attack based win con. Why? Because as a player who mainly plays Bant colors, and specifically runs a green "core" in most of my decks, Craterhoof is the one creature that ends games for creature based decks in green, without dipping into some sort of tribal. The creature that spells game over for at least one player when it comes into play. The creature everyone dreads to see enter the battlefield.
